Codes and Conventions Prominence graphs
We looked at four different films: Hurt Locker,Amelie and Jurassic Park. We then made graphs which show the tension in each film, the sounds, and how genre is shown throughout.
Blue line=Genre
Pink Line= Tension
Green line=Sound
Resident evil
Amelie

Amelie starts with classical string instruments, with the French narrator speaking over the top. The narration over the top of the opening is usually used to introduce the protagonist. The genre is not clear but the deep red colours throughout the majority of the opening has connotations of love but also danger.
Hurt Locker

In the first 40 seconds of the opening it is very tense as there are soldiers which shoes a sense of danger and panic towards an audience and the rush of them moving the people away from what is suspected to be a bomb, creates a lot of tension. The genre of the the film is clear to be War, this also relates to the tension as war is a highly tense place. The sound in Hurt Locker is mainly diegetic and has little areas in the opening when the sound plays a key role. The sound compliments we'll with the tension.
Jurassic Park
In Jurassic Park the genre is not known until towards the very end, however in introducing it in this was it makes the audience want to keep watching so they find out what the film is going to be about, Sci-Fi/Action. The sound its present and compliments the tension as when the box suddenly moves and the guards have to shoot 'her' the sound and tension both increase together and the sound becomes loud and constant.
